For the first photograph in the Member's Choice series our webmaster, Rob Cochran, volunteered to comment on his photograph "Bluebells and beeches", which was in our Forests and woodlands competition. It was on display in Wincanton library as the club's Picture of the Month in May, 2013.

Bluebells and beeches

The image was captured as a raw file and there wasn't a lot of work needed on the computer afterwards; I don't recall much more than a white balance adjustment, a contrast enhancement and some sharpening.

For those who are interested in the technical details they are as follows. The photo was shot on a Canon EOS 5D mkll with a 24-70 f2.8L lens @70 mm, mounted on a tripod. Exposure was 0.4sec at f11, ISO 100, daylight white balance. All developing on the computer was done in Lightroom 4.

I know it's been done many times before, but this is my take on a timeless, quintessentially English springtime scene.
